Valerie Spanswick

My studies were in the history of art, a subject I really love. Alas, I'm not as talented as Caravaggio or Sargent, and when it comes to creating art I am mostly self-taught.

Besides painting a bit, through the years I’ve tried my hand at ceramics, printmaking, altering tins and making jewellery. After much dabbling, I’ve found I get the most pleasure working with paper and mixed media - collage, decoupage, and miniature dioramas. I can’t imagine a world without glue!

What I like about book arts is the chance to tell a story in many different ways, with words or without. I enjoy altering books or creating dioramas, and I'm drawn to old photographs that capture a mood and evoke imagined memories.

I’m a perpetual learner and have found many kindred spirits in this Group!
